It is good to offer people a method to click once to go to your website after reading your comments. Most comments boxes allow you to enter your website URL after adding your email address, which won’t be seen by readers. That is sufficient to have attracted a potential customer to your website.

It is particularly poor practice to mention a direct link to a specific page on your website unless it really is the only option to show and prove the comments you are making.

Do be conscious of the name you use when commenting and the URL(s) you point back to. Consistency matters, particularly on naming, and linking to your internal website pages or using a name that’s clearly made for keyword-spamming rather than true conversation. It will kill your efforts before they begin.

Writing comments won’t bring you guaranteed website traffic, but it helps select visitors you might not have found elsewhere.

Very popular choice in creating a profit from your website, Adsense lets other webmasters promote their site on your page. You can immediately attract new visits using your Signature or Avatar. Being active and helpful can show people that you are serious about the niche you are in which will help gain trust within the community. You may also be able to get a discount on advertising on the forum if your reputation exceeds you! Be careful not to spam or annoy members by constantly posting your service or website

Paid Traffic
This is the method that can bring huge rewards, once you have your conversion ratio worked out you can start to buy web traffic in bulk and explode your earnings. One way of ensuring your back link is both relevant and from a high PR page is by submitting your website to web directories. At first glance web directories sound very appealing, they are usually well trusted by search engines due to their age and lack of page wide spam but they do not come without their own set of problems. Their are a lot of sneaky webmasters out there that have snapped by high PR domains at auction sites and thrown up directory plugins which let them accept website URLS into different categories in exchange for cash.

Finding thats directory worth your money
The million dollar question, easily answered when it comes to some of the major players in the web directory world. Paying Yahoo $300 to review your submission is expensive but I dont think you need me to tell you that that link will be well worth it when google crawls it. Lets look at the other web directories that are a little less known.

When viewing a web directory I check a few things to make sure its legitimate and has not partaken in any sort of dodgy activites that might make my site look back once my link has been firmly placed in its database

1.Does the directory look well kept?
This can be tricky to tell, a lot of web directories look dated and that’s because they usually are, they serve one purpose and that’s to easily list websites in relevant categories making it easy for search spiders to find them and rate them. What I would do is check websites are inside there correct category, make sure there are no duplicate submissions.

2.How many ads do they have?
There is nothing wrong with one maybe two adverts but when a web directory has 5 adverts and the majority are above the fold this should start ringing alarm bells. Web directories main form of income is from payed reviews. If the web directory is successful they will get a regular amount of traffic and a regular income meaning they do not need to rely on advertisements, If you spot more than two adverts I would be wary about parting with my money for a back link, they obviously are not making much from being a web directory.

3.How does their backlinking look?
Your backlink profile paints a thousands words, I always check a websites backlink profile to make sure they have been playing well with Google’s guidelines. After all whats the point in sourcing a $100 one way  high PR backlink only to find out the site your link as been placed on have been spamming blog comments and in return have been penalized by Google.

4. What does Blekko say about them?
Not many people know about Blekko, its a wonderful search engine that has important tools for people wishing to do some SEO. Head over to Blekko and enter the directory URL followed by /seo. This lets you check the location of the links on there site, if your website is based in USA it would be good to be part of a web directory that as 75%+ USA websites linked inside

5. Google search for review
An oldie but still important, Google the web directory name followed by “review” this should help gauge the general feedback and help you decide if dropping the money is worth it.

Remember paid links are technically not allowed by Google but they understand that you cant expect a huge web directory to manually review submissions for free.
